What I think that it is my photographic evolution, oh wait, I find it on my musical origins.
These days I have started using the three trial months that Apple Music offers. Whilst flicking through the catalogue (we could say universe) I get to one of the musicians that opened my doors to adulthood in the eighties: the Jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.
At that time, Pat Metheny used to publish his music through the German ECM records. Jan Garbarek, Brad Meldhau, Chic Corea and Keith Jarret are some of the great musicians that recorded with ECM. ECM records is moreover, not Jazz dedicated, but to the contemporary music instead.
And how do you link this with photography? Because in a time where the disc covers were important, Pat Metheny’s always amazed me by their beauty. Here go some examples:
But the ECM’s ones seem sublime. To me, the poetics start from their covers:
All of this I rediscover now, during Spotify and Apple music era, when I realize that the photography I like, was already getting published on disc covers thirty years ago.
A circle that closes. And, surprisingly, I feel good.
